Bissoni's father's farm produced just enough to feed the family. Thanks to new technologies such as mechanised equipment, fertilizers and crop protection products, as well as better seed varieties, the farm now produces enough food for 2-3000 people.

China - Huang Changlong

Huang Changlong of Sichuan Province, China, has participated in several training programmes on the responsible and effective use of pesticides.

China - Liu Shuhua

Liu Shuhua supports a family of five by farming two acres of land in southwest China. Agronomic training provided by the local Plant Protection Station has taught Liu how to identify pests and use the correct pesticides, increasing yields by 30%

China - Wang Hengming

Wang Hengming is a vegetable farmer of Sichuan Province, China. In 1999 he lost a large crop of egg-plant to Verticillium wilt, but now he regularly attends training programmes on crop protection

India - Guntupalli Sai Vara Prasad

Prasad has seen great improvements in his cotton crops since he began using new seed varieties derived from biotechnology. Before adopting this technology, he faced destruction of his crop from pests, and flowering was inadequate
